House of Harmony is a working cooperative for disadvantaged ladies located in a town called Sauk i Vjeter, just outside the capital city of Albania (Tirana).
Albania is one of the poorest countries in Europe, and is hamstrung by issues of unemployment, domestic abuse, corruption, alcoholism, and hopelessness. Many girls and women are trafficked from and through Albania to different parts of Europe. For a woman in Albania, life is very difficult.
It was with this in mind that House of Harmony began to work with women in the village and to offer employment. House of Harmony started with a sewing training program for women, and soon grew so that now there is now a small sewing center in the middle of the village where women work producing some of the goods you see on this site. Other women from the community also crochet as a part of House of Harmony.
